Mulu Day 5 - Canopy Walk

Mulu Canopy Walk
Sunday, 16th Jan 2011
9a.m - 11a.m

Our last activity at Mulu... walking on the world's longest tree based walkway in the world. Seriously, long and I felt like no ending when I started to walk....hahaha. Tapi kalau gayat pun bleh jer... tapi my tips pejam mata yea.

On the way to Canopy Walk... passed by this bridge

... and also this bridge... Sungai Paku

Pokok Kasai

Starting of Canopy Walk

Nampak Cool jer minah ni kan

Peace... without fear I completed the walk

If it's rain, we're not allowed to walk on the canopy walkaway. Luckily, by the time we arrived there, the rain has stopped... Alhamdulillah. The suspension bridge was really strong since supported by a very stable big trees i.e. Pokok Kasai and a few others. Every stop between the two bridges you will find a very useful information on every tree...the tree that support the suspension bridge ends. So, not only you walk & having fun but at the same time, you will learn something about the rainforest....trees, floras and faunas. Lots of information you may found during your walk and each of it will have a different interesting stories.

During our canopy walk... Seria did asked us a few tricky questions since kita orang tak banyak tanye. Hahaha....salah satu nyer...

"Pokok kita rich with Nutrien or less with Nutrien"

All of us answered, "Rich with Nutrien".... bagus anak-anak tapi salah yea...it was actually less with Nutrien. Tulah masuk hutan je selalu tapi tak pernah pun nak belaja ilmu alam. Seria pun explained lah dekat kami semua why it was less with Nutrien?....rupa-rupa nyer sebab lapisan bumi sekarang ni dah semakin nipis that's why it less with Nutrien.

Seria cakap semakin lama dia belajar pasal ilmu alam nie ...dia rase semakin takut cos dia dapat membayangkan apa yang akan jadi pada mase akan datang dengan keadaan bumi yang sekarang nie. Maybe because she's a kristian so she believed with what she had seen and explored but as a Muslim we can believe on that as preparation but we have to remember that everything happened is coming from Him (Allah).

So nice

Kenapa daun ni berlubang? Can u guess why?

You could see this unique flower

Plan for next time trip to Mulu... Insyallah

End of our Canopy Walk

With Sirea...our guide of the day... nice knowing Her

Supergirl group... but ter missed one cute girl

Finally end our trip....see u again Mulu

Can't wait for our next trip tu Mulu conquering Mount Mulu. Wait n See.

- The End -

Mulu Day 4 - Deer & Lang Caves, Bat Exodus

Saturday, 15th Jan 2011
2.30pm-6.30pm

We arrived Mulupark around 1 p.m. and check-in again. Mase check-in, I was entertained by other person pulak. Mase tu tak tahu lagi nama dia tak sempat tanye... tapi bila dia check activity kita orang petang tu... dia cakap kat aku nanti kumpul 2.30 petang ya... and He introduced himself as our guide for next trip to Deer n Lang cave...OK.

This time we need to move to another Chalet just next to our previous chalet. Anyway this one also nice.

The next activity after returned to Mulupark... Le tour to Deer & Lang caves. This time you don't need a boat ride but you need to walk from Mulupark to these two caves. It takes us about 45 minutes juga lah to get there through plank walk. Kebetulan masa tu hujan so kita orang no choice other than to proceed... with our raincoat. Best juga jalan dalam hujan nie....sesekali kan but carefull the plank walk might be slippery if you walk with unsuitable shoes.

Emmhhh....jalan lagi. Mase on the way to Lang cave sempat juga lah aku borak2 dengan our guide, Harison... kata jalan sekali kan. He's very friendly and quite kelakar juga. His from Miri actually cuma after finished His studies dia keje dengan Mulupark. Lepas tu, Bos dia siap hantar dia gi Australia sambung belaja dalam bidang batu. Dia cakap dulu dia tak pandai cakap Bahasa omputih tapi lepas keje situ tiap2 malam dia belaja dengan Bos dia sampai lah jadi pandai... sampai jadi world heritage guide. Best nyer. His stories not end just like that....banyak lagi dia citer tapi yang lain tu tak penting sangat pun.

Apa yang penting nak citer pasal Lang cave pulak. The first cave we entered.

Could see different colors of Limestone

Beautiful formation inside Lang cave

Water from stalactites.... ade pond lagi

Stalactites

Jelly Fish formation...Fantastic

Our guide of the day....cute Harison

Next is... Deer Cave. This cave was known as the largest cave passage in the world. Deer cave ni actually is home to more than 12 species of bats.

Why it is called Deer Cave... long time ago local deer discovered that "Guano" (or bats output) contains salt. So, they always coming here for that. But, since the local people know that the deer needed salt, so, they waited here to hunt them. So, that's how Deer cave got its name. ohhh....macam tu citer nyer.

Abraham Lincoln's Profile at Deer cave
The most popular cave formation in Deer cave... fantastic right

View from inside Deer cave

Eden of Pool Garden... could only be seen from far

View from inside Deer Cave...Awesome

Kami dah tour gua nie...sangat cantik

Kami nak pergi tengok kelawar plak

Place to see Bat Exodus

We're waiting for the bats...sambil2 makan

Ade satu citer kelakar mase kita orang kat tempat tunggu bats exodus. We met a few korean frens...actually dia orang ni High school student from Korean. Dia suddenly approached kita orang just to ask about the tudung Yat pakai... hahaha... kata nyer nak buat souveniers pulang to Korea nanti. Tapi citer kita orang bukan pasal tudung jer.... pasal benda lain juga. T-rah tiba2 over excited plak dah jumpa org Korea ni....mula lah start siter....Marry me Mary lah...Shinee...semua citer kt Channel kt KBS tu lah dia nak citer. Apa lagi over excited juga lah Korean students nie... siap melompat-lompat lagi. Kita orang pun apa lagi tumpang gelak besar lah...especially aku yang memang suke gelak-gelak ni. Dia pun macam terkejut giler kita orang tahu semua pasal Korea. Dia tak tahu among kita orang nie, T-rah tu fanatic. But, it was really a very kelakar moment with them.

With our new Korean Friends...dia org nie memang kelakar lah

Kita orang sempat mengabdikan kenangan dengan Korean nie...walaupun dia orang tak pandai cakap omputih tapi kita orang layan je lah. Our story end when suddenly a millions of bats started to came out from the cave.

The formation was really fantastic and beautiful. Lambat juga kelawar ni keluar... dah dekat2 pukul 6 baru nak keluar. So, we had to return back to Mulupark a bit late....and by that time dah gelap pun.

Anyway, I really enjoyed.

Bats formation

Fantastic formation.... How they do that

To be continued.

Mulu... Magical Night Walk

Wed, 12th Jan 2011

Let's walk
Price: RM10 pp
Location: Night Walk Trail, Mulupark
Time: Around 7pm-9pm

Things you may need to bring:
-Torchlight/Headlight
-Raincoat (in case of raining)
-Suitable walking shoes or sandals
-Camera

Part of our optional activities but since kita orang tak plan awal2, Cuma ade 4 persons jer boleh join lagi. At one time, only 8 persons are allowed for a Night walk. Reason cannot be more than 8…not everyone can hear what the guide are trying to say when we walk in a large group. Emmhh....Whatever.

Aku check schedule for Sabtu juga with the hope that can fit in 8 persons but still only 4 people can fit in….4 peoples already booked earlier. Emhhh, so, dengan berat hati aku pun terpaksa divide our grup into 2, meaning only 4 can join today and the rest will join on Saturday. Ok lah, at least you have something to explore at Mulu during Night time. But, the tour will be cancelled if raining.

We arrived a bit late (5 minutes je pun), since semua ingat pun the walk will be cancelled if raining, that’s why kita orang slow n steady jer gerak to Park HQ. But, that time pun memang still raining. Sampai2 jer, no one there, maybe the walk already cancelled I guest. Then, ade one Mat salleh couple ni passed by kita orang and told us that they just saw people walk to Night trail….and they asked us if we’re going to the same destination. Confirmed, we had been left. Lambat lagi.

Suddenly, there’s one cute guy datang kat kita orang cakap…you all join Night Walk ka? Then He used His walkie talkie nak contact our guide for a Night Walk. He said, “you still have time to catch them….they just started walk”. Dia pun guide lah kita orang (give direction dengan mulut je) how to get there. Rase2 confident kita orang pun gerak lah sendiri follow as per instructed by Him. Then I remembered, He was actually Harison (our guide for Deer n Lang caves).

Night Walk Trail...but this photo was taken during daytime

Kita orang memandai2 lah jalan sendiri, Kay n Huzz kt depan while me n T-rah kat belakang berpimping tangan...macam couple lah plak. Scary juga trail dia, aku rase kalau siang, not a problem to me tapi it was Night and without any lighting provided along the trail, could u imagine walking at night in the middle of the jungle. Kita orang pun jalan and jalan tanpa sempat nak explore kiri n kanan since no guide with us. Lama juga lah kita orang jalan, aku pun rase seram sejuk juga, yelah hujan + bunyi unggas2 hutan. Tapi aku tekad tak nak fikir benda bukan2, so, aku buat je lah selamba. Finally, we met our guide, Sunto. Dia pun tak tanye apa2 sangat pun kt kita orang, and trus jer proceed with His explanation to one couple Mat salleh. Ade 2 orang mat salleh je pun masa tu…the other 2 maybe cancelled because of the rain.

We’ve been introduced by Sunto to magic life which u could only see at Night. Actually, we could see more but since it was raining at that time, not many night creatures we could see. Only a few, itu pun maybe they managed to protect themselves from the rain like stay at the back of the leaves and hiding at place where they cannot be reached and disturbed.

One on the unique plant

A bunch of Pitcher Plant

They are alive in this beautiful Night jungle

Mentadak Malam

Awesome...looks like human faces
Siput apa ntah...lupa nak tanye nama dia

We stopped at one big tree known as Kasai and Sunto explained the function of this tree. According to Him, long time ago, people of Penan use their buttress to get help if they lost in the jungle by hitting it …and wow there's unique sound came out from it. But, carefull different sound or music may cause other thing to be called...actually Penan People use to believe on Evil spirit...so, they believe that certain sound may cause them (evil spirit) to come....huuuu seram. Ohh...sound unique n scary juga yer pokok ni, finally I understand. Then, aku pun try juga lah tumbuk pokok ni. Haah memang ade bunyi lah tapi tak kuat mana pun…so, I guest kena punch lagi harder lah kot nak kasi bunyi dia lagi kuat. Baru pukul sikit jer tangan aku dah sakit ni kan nak pukul lagi kuat…lupa kan jelah…so, next time kalu sesat cari lah alternative lain yea. Bawa wisel contoh nyer :-) Anyway creative juga orang Penan ni yea.

Kay is trying to hit the buttress

Meranti Lubang Hidung...latex of this tree can cause fire

Although it was a short walk…about 1 hour macam tu….since we’ve been left for about half an hour but still I really enjoyed the walk. At least, I learnt something new about a Night life of the God’s creation, knowing the function of certain tress n came to know the name of some unique floras and Faunas. What a wonderful Night walk.

Now, I realized that every single life creatures has its own purpose why God created them in such a way. Must be a useful function and purposes that we need to explore and search....to get to know them better.
Next....Mulu Day 2

Mulu…the Land of Magic

Wed, 12th Jan 2011
Mulu Airport...& Mulupark

Aku dah lama plan nak gi kt Mulu ni. Since aku seconded kat Miri lagi. Actually, aku dah plan macam2 sepanjang aku kt Miri for trip to Mulu, siap dah buat itinerary lagi and book for accommodation. Tapi masa tue aku plan dengan kawan2 aku kt Miri lah. Tapi memandang kan schedule yg agak tight for Shell Revisit project and plus with ragam kawan2 aku yang memanjang tak sure jer…emhhhh….sudah nyer sampai aku dah balik KL pun, plan to Mulu tak menjadi. Tapi aku still tekad by hook or by crook aku nak pergi juga one day. Since masa tu aku tak get along well with other geng Gunung....tak terfikir plak nak gi dengan dia orang.

Suddenly after 1 month we returned from KK… after successfully conquered Mount KK aku received one email form Airasia….RM200Air Ticket Voucher (compensation for 3 hours flight delay)…Altogether ade 8 tickets…so, RM1200….bleh beli return tiket ni tapi mase ade offer lah. Wow, mase tue aku tak fikir tempat lain dah…Mulu jer dalam igauan. Aku pun start lah sending email plus website pasal Mulu kt geng2 Gunung with the hope that they all agreed dengan idea aku. Alhamdulillah, positive feedback.

Aku pun rancang lah semua sendiri, book tiket, accommodation n everything. Penat juga lah buat semua sendiri kan tapi dream vacation punye pasal aku tak kisah asal kan semua orang pun happy. Berpuluh email juga lah aku send to Mulupark nak tahu detail pasal Mulu nie…plan must be excellent kan…baru puas hati.

Alhamdulillah semua berjalan seperti yang dirancangkan…itu yang penting. Thanks geng Gunung for your great contribution and cooperation to the successfully of our trip.

We departed form Miri with Maswing around 9.30 a.m, the earliest flight to Mulu. Cume ade 2 flight je ke Mulu in one day, 9.30a.m and 2.30p.m. Tapi kalu choose petang rugi lah cos you already wasted afternoon activities.

All flight booking and schedule boleh check at this web. But, since Maswing slalu ade promotion so better you wait till the promotion, ade discount…like I did.

Thanks Maswing for flying us to Mulu

It took about half an hour to reach Mulu by Flight. Tapi kalau naik Boat form Kuala Baram Miri, 8 jam juga lah baru nak sampai. Looks adventure kan naik boat tapi tak nak penat punye pasal, I’ve to cancel the plan....maybe next time Insyallah.

Every angle....kami abadikan kenangan

Sampai jerk at airport Miri….Subhanallah cantik nyer view. Macam tak percaya apa yang dirancang menjadi. Memandang kan beg kita orang tak turun dari belon lagi so kita orang pun apa lagi….posing sakan lah kat Airport Mulu ni. Airport kt sini tak strict sangat yelah at one time pun Cuma ade satu je pun plane, so, kita orang bleh siap duk tengok beg kita orang turun kapal lagi and siap duk kat depan plane amik gambar lagi. But, the truth is…. every angle kat Airport tu kita orang posing amik gambar.

Macam tak caya jer....finally sampai juga

Ade 3 orang Chinese yang kebetulan same flight ngn kita orang, perangai pun nampak lebih kurang macam kita orang jugalah….hehehe…layan amik gambar. Luckily ade dia orang…boleh juga suruh amik gambar…lepas tu kita org pun gilir2 lah amik gambar…and so on so forth. Same destination….cuma dia orang duk kt Royal Mulu resort n using package. Anyway, nice knowing them.

Beautiful view you could see from Mulu's Airport

After about half n hour kita orang masuk, pick up luggage then tunggu kt luar cari van to Mulupark. Keluar2 jer ader 2 orang tanye aku nak gi mana, so, tanpa buang masa aku pun OK jer n trus bayar, they charged RM10 per person for return ticket, ok lah tu cover untuk balik juga. Tup-tup haa amik ko… van mewah…aku ingat kan naik van yg agak OK kt sebelah dia tu. Layan je lah….apa pun kami sempat abadi kan kenangan.

Our transport to Mulupark...van antik yea

Kenangan naik van

On the way to Mulupark, jalan dikelilingi pokok2 n semak2 n kelihatan juga lah a few Penan House (I guest). Kat Mulu jalan darat Cuma dari Airport nak ke Mulupark and Resort jer and other tourist accomodation.

About 5 minutes macam tu jer dah sampai…takde lah jauh mana pun. Sampai2 jer, aku rase kita orang je yang naik van mewah tu sebab rata2 orang yang sampai kt situ semua dengan 4 wheel drive car n paling teruk pun van yang agak sempurna sikit lah. Apapun yg penting kami dah sampai n….apa lagi ….amik gambar lagi lah…kt depan entrance to Mulupark (prove that we’re already here).

Nak ke Mulupark plak, we need to cross Sungai Melinau, so, kena cross Bridge. From the bridge, boleh nampak bot2 tersusun kt Jetty. Bot ni lah yang membawa kami menyusuri Sungai Melinau. Transport utama kat sini…jalan air. So, boleh guess lah nak ke mana2 pun kena naik boat.

Entrance to Mulupark

Finally...we arrived

Sampai2 jer, I was entertained by one beautiful lady. And that time juga lah aku kenal dengan our tour Fast Lane guide n Pinnacle’s guide, Bagli (tak ingat lah full name dia). Layanan kira OK lah, and that time aku rase kita orang je yang the only Malay yang ade kt situ. Mostly, aku nampak mat salleh jer. Yelah World Heritage Area lah kata kan. Actually, ade masalah skit mase aku nak buat full payment cos takde signal plak tiba2, since aku tak bawa byk cash, aku terpakse lah guna credit card. Luckily OK after, she tried a few time, itupun after dia berlari ke hulu ke hilir cari reception yang OK skit. Aku siap kasi suggestion kat dia suruh duk sebelah satellite dish lagi…hahaha.

Mulupark HQ...you have to gather here first for any activities

Cafe at Mulupark

Souvenirs Shop

We’re given a very comfortable chalet surrounded by beautiful jungle n become scary during night time. So, nak keluar malam2 kena lah ramai2 yea….kepada yang penakut.

Our Chalet....comfortable and OK

Beautiful view around our chalet

Inside our chalet....

Anyway, I really enjoyed the view around the chalet…nyaman jer. Bilik pun OK, 4 single bed in one room…n everything pun OK…satisfied.

Ok…to be continued.
